New cabinets or refinished ones, new flooring, new countertops, and the
finish work done properly. We have been remodeling and painting Cincinnati homes for over
ten years, and we tell you honestly which option gives you the kitchen you want for the
budget you have.
Most kitchens we work on in Cincinnati fall into one of three jobs. Knowing which one you
actually need is the difference between spending four thousand dollars and spending thirty,
and it is the first thing we work out when we come and look.
Refresh
The layout works and the cabinet boxes are sound. We refinish the cabinets, replace
the hardware, paint the walls and ceiling, and often put down new flooring. This is the
job that surprises people most, because a kitchen can look completely new without a
single cabinet being torn out.
Replace
Cabinets are water damaged, sagging or dated beyond refinishing. We remove and
replace the cabinetry and countertops, update the flooring, and handle the paint and
trim so the room reads as one finished space rather than new boxes in an old room.
Reconfigure
The layout itself is the problem: a wall in the wrong place, no island, nowhere to
stand while someone else cooks. The largest job, and the one that needs the most
planning. We will be straight with you about the timeline before you commit.
Cabinets: refinish or replace?
This is the question that decides your budget. Cabinet refinishing keeps the existing
boxes and gives the doors and frames a new finish. It takes a few days rather than a few
weeks, costs a fraction of replacement, and in a kitchen with solid wood cabinets the result
is genuinely hard to tell from new.
Our own work: a Cincinnati kitchen, cabinets refinished rather than replaced.
Replacement makes sense when the boxes themselves are failing, when the layout needs to
change, or when the existing cabinets are a laminate that will not hold a new finish. We will
tell you which one you are looking at when we see the kitchen. We would rather do an honest
refinish you are happy with than sell you a replacement you did not need.
Why that matters: a refinish typically takes 3 to 6 days and costs a
fraction of replacement. Plenty of contractors will not mention it because replacement is
the bigger invoice.
Flooring
We install new flooring as part of the remodel, which matters more than it sounds:
flooring installed before cabinets, or after, changes how the finished edges look and how
easily an appliance can be replaced later. Doing floors and cabinets as one job avoids the
mismatched thresholds you see when two contractors work months apart.
Counters, backsplash and the finish work
Countertops, backsplash tile, trim, caulking and paint are where a remodel either looks
finished or looks nearly finished. Because we came up as painters, the finish work is the
part we are strictest about — clean lines where cabinets meet wall, no gaps at the
trim, and a paint job that holds up to kitchen heat and steam.
Appliance and worktop installation is part of the same job.Finish work is what separates done from nearly done.
How long it takes
Cabinet refinishing and paint: usually 3 to 6 days
Refresh with flooring and counters: usually 1 to 2 weeks
Full replacement: usually 3 to 5 weeks depending on cabinet lead times
Layout changes: quoted individually after we see the space
Those are the ranges we actually see, not best cases. If something will take longer we say
so before you commit, and if we hit a delay you hear it from us rather than noticing it.
What it costs
Every kitchen is different, so we do not publish one price — a cabinet refinish and a
full replacement are not the same job. What we will say is that we price fairly for
Cincinnati, the estimate is in writing before any work starts, and we do not add costs later
unless something genuinely unexpected turns up behind a cabinet. If that happens you hear
about it before we proceed, not afterwards on the invoice.
Where we work
Our shop is on Leona Drive, so most of our work is on the West Side and close by. We are
in Covedale, Cheviot, Bridgetown,
Green Township, Colerain Township, Westwood and Delhi
Township most weeks, and we know the housing stock there well — the older Covedale and
Cheviot homes in particular, where plaster walls and original trim need a different approach
from newer construction.
We also work across the rest of Cincinnati including Madeira, Indian Hill, Kenwood, Hyde
Park, Oakley, Mariemont and Anderson Township, and across the river in Florence, Kentucky.
Common questions
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Cincinnati?
It depends entirely on which of the three jobs you need, so any number quoted before
seeing your kitchen is a guess. A cabinet refinish and repaint is the least expensive route;
a full replacement with new counters and flooring is considerably more. We come out, look at
the work and give you a written estimate at no charge.
Can you just refinish the cabinets and leave the rest?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. Many kitchens only need the cabinets
refinished and the walls repainted to feel new.
Do you install flooring as well?
Yes. We install new flooring as part of a remodel and sequence it with the cabinetry so
the finished edges and thresholds are right.
How long will my kitchen be out of use?
For a refinish, a few days. For a full replacement, expect a few weeks. We plan the
sequence so you get the sink and a working run of counter back as early as possible.
Do you do bathrooms too?
Yes. Bathroom remodeling is the other half
of our remodeling work, and many customers do both at once.
Are estimates really free?
Yes. We come out, measure, talk through the options and leave you with a written
estimate. No charge, no obligation.
